This one-day event delivers 8 hours of NSUOCO-sponsored CE, including the required 1 hour of Jurisprudence for Oklahoma licensure.

Our symposium features in-depth presentations on the latest advancements in cataract surgery, refractive procedures, oculoplastics, and case-based learning that you can immediately apply to your practice. Anterior Segment Update

Course Description: Therapeutic and Surgical Treatment of Ocular Disease is constantly changing. This 1-hour lecture is designed to update the participant on new and emerging technologies and treatments in Ocular Disease, focusing on the anterior chamber. Jason Ellen, OD Hannah Sanders, OD, FAAO

SLT and MIGs – What’s New?

Course Description: Laser and Surgical Intervention for Glaucoma have become more standard as first line therapy. This 1-hour lecture will focus on updating the participant in new and emerging technologies for the long-term treatment of glaucoma. Recent studies including the LIGHT and COAST study results will be reviewed and how that impacts the management of glaucoma both with and beyond drop therapy. Haley Baldridge, OD

Laser Vitreolysis

Course Description: This course will shed light on the most overlooked structure in the eye as well as provide a comprehensive review of laser vitreolysis for the management of symptomatic vitreous opacities. Emphasis is placed on vitreous anatomy and physiology, historical development of laser vitreolysis, patient symptom correlation, review of peer-reviewed literature, and clinical decision-making. Refractive Surgery and Keratoconus Treatment 2026

Course Description: This course will provide a comprehensive review of trends, as well as new and emerging technologies in refractive surgery. Joel Sturm, O.D.

Cornea Don't Feel, Cornea Don't Heal

No pain, no gain they say. What happens when corneal nerves don’t feel? In a case-based format, this talk covers the course of poor healing corneas due to neurotrophic keratitis. Early stages to advanced stages, and how optometrists have a crucial role to play will be discussed. Sophia Leung, OD, FAAO

Plasma Power: Non-Surgical Options for the Lids and Ocular Surface

This talk introduces optometrists to the clinical use of plasma-based technology for periocular and ocular surface procedures. We will explore how plasma technology interacts with eyelid and ocular surface tissues, review relevant anatomy and histology. Sophia Leung, OD, FAAO

Meet Our Expert Speakers

Jason Ellen, OD
Dr. Ellen graduated Cum Laude from Northeastern State University College of Optometry in May 1999, and furthered his education by completing an Ocular Disease and Refractive Surgery Residency through BVA Advanced Eyecare and TLC Laser Eye Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During that time, Dr. Ellen became the first optometric resident in the US to perform refractive surgery. In 2015, Dr. Ellen partnered with Dr. Chad Chamberlain and together, they purchased a Tulsa practice to form Oklahoma Medical Eye Group (OMEG). Dr. Ellen currently serves as the Co-coordinator for the OMEG Residency in Ocular Disease and Ocular and Refractive Surgery with Dr. Jo'el Sturm.
Jo'el Sturm, OD
Dr. Sturm specializes in Refractive Surgery Management and Ocular Disease. When she is not participating in patient care, her focus is Business Development at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group. Dr. Sturm has a long history of developing referral centers for refractive surgery, new technologies in refractive cataract surgery and the treatment of keratoconus. She is an active member of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians and Past President of the organization. Dr. Sturm lectures on effective patient communications, pre and post-surgical care, cross linking, keratoconus treatment, and refractive surgery – including refractive cataract surgery.
Haley Baldridge, OD
Dr. Haley Baldridge was born and grew up in Duncan Oklahoma. She did her undergraduate studies at Oklahoma State University and received her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry. She went on to complete a residency in Ocular Disease at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group (OMEG)! It was during that residency at OMEG in Tulsa that she fell in love with helping people through treating eye disease. Dr. Baldridge's dream is to share the overwhelming joy that comes with improving vision and serve as a teacher for those she provides care for.
Andrew Whitley, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Andrew Whitley, O.D. graduated from NSU Oklahoma School of Optometry in 2013. During his time at NSU, he spent 3 months as an extern in ocular disease at BVA and refractive surgery at TLC. He then completed a 13-month Ocular Disease and Surgical Residency at Bennett and Bloom Eye Centers in Louisville, KY. He was one of the first optometrists to perform laser procedures in more than one state.
Dr. Whitley’s passion in eye care is for medical, laser, and surgical procedures for eye diseases such as Dry Eye Disease, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Floaters, and Diabetes. In addition, he has extensive experience in refractive surgery consultations. He has been certified and experienced in performing Photorefractive Keratectomy since 2017.
Chad Chamberlain, DO
Dr. Chamberlain is an Oklahoma native and attended Northeastern State University for his undergraduate and premedical studies. He obtained his medical degree from OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his 4-year ophthalmology residency in Tulsa and pursued additional oculoplastic training under Dr. Gerry Hunter. Dr. Chamberlain practices comprehensive ophthalmology including laser assisted cataract and refractive surgery. He is recognized as a leading specialist in functional & cosmetic oculoplastic procedures including upper and lower lid & brow reconstruction.
Hannah Sanders, OD
Dr. Hannah Sanders grew up in Morrison, OK. She attended Oklahoma State University, and in 2017, she received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Ethical Leadership. In 2021, she earned her Doctor of Optometry from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry where she was awarded the Golden Retinoscope for Outstanding Clinician. Dr. Sanders completed residency training in Ocular Disease and Refractive/Ocular Surgery at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group and then spent a year in a mini fellowship with Dr. Chamberlain in Oculoplastics.
Sophia Leung, OD, FAAO
Dr. Sophia Leung is a residency-trained and fellowship-trained optometrist with a clinical emphasis in cornea, advanced glaucoma, and anterior segment disease. She is the Principal Optometrist of Seema Eye Care Center in Calgary, Alberta, performing surgical triage, secondary and tertiary medical management, and surgical co-management alongside ophthalmologists of various subspecialties. She is also the Clinical Director of the Ocular Surface and Dry Eye Clinic at Seema Eye Care Center.
Dr. Leung is a University of Waterloo School of Optometry alumni. Dr. Leung also completed an Ocular Disease and Refractive Surgery Residency and an Advanced Glaucoma and Cornea Fellowship with Oklahoma Medical Eye Group (affiliated with NSUOCO) in 2019-2021. Dr. Leung is the current President of the Alberta Association of Optometrists, a Fellow and Board Member of the American Society of Optometric Surgeons, and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry in the Anterior Segment Section, the first Albertan and Canadian to do so.
Dr. Leung enjoys teaching and running hands-on workshops on expanded scope procedures including in-office laser procedures and cornea disease management.

Proceeds from the OMEG Educational Symposium will go to benefit OMEG Vision For Humanity Inc., a non-profit organization established by the physicians at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group. For over 10 years, OMEG has quietly provided sight-saving medical care and surgery for those who cannot afford it.

Dr. Jason Ellen formally created OMEG Vision For Humanity Inc. as a non-profit organization dedicated to this mission. By attending our symposium, you become part of this important cause. Proceeds from this meeting will directly support efforts to benefit patients in need throughout our community.

Vision For Humanity exists to provide world-class education for students, doctors, and the community to promote a healthy life that starts with healthy vision. The organization provides sight-saving medical care and surgery to members of the community who cannot afford it.
